Polaris Shipping, a South Korean dry bulk carrier, has rescued 10 crews from the Jawa Sea near Indonesia. On Wednesday September 4th, M/V Sao Heaven, one of the company’s 325,000 ton class fleet, has found crews drifting off the coast of Jakarta (05°S, 108°E, Jawa Sea) on a capsized fishing boat. Polaris immediately established an emergency response center and sent an urgent notice to Indonesian Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre. After 4 hours of rescue effort, M/V Sao Heaven has successfully rescued and aided total 10 Indonesian crews who has suffered long starvation and injuries. M/V Sao Heaven waited until Indonesian rescue ship “KN SAR 246 KARNA” to arrive and transfer the injured to the near port. Exact cause of the accident is yet to be known. Meanwhile, M/V Sao Heaven is the 5th vessel among 18 VLOCs (Very Large Ore Carrier) delivered from Hyundai Heavy Industries to serve a 25-years long term contract with the Brazilian mining company VALE. The company's official mentioned that she has provided rescue effort on humanitarian grounds during her maiden voyage from the port of Ponta Da Madeira in Brazil to China. |
