The Korea Shipowners’ Association (Chairman Jung-seok Park) and the Korea Ocean Business Corporation (President Byung-gil Ahn) held a meeting at the Shipping Building in Yeouido, Seoul, on the 20th to discuss key issues facing the shipping industry.
At the meeting, Chairman Park Jung-seok stressed close cooperation with the Korea Ocean Business Corporation, saying, "Eco-friendly and digital transformation is emerging as a key task for the shipping industry." President Ahn Byung-gil also promised active support, saying, "It is important to have integrated competitiveness not only in shipping but also in ports and logistics."
In particular, the meeting addressed the increased demand for ship finance due to the introduction of eco-friendly ships as a major issue. Yang Chang-ho, vice chairman of the Korea Shipping Association, raised the need to expand the capital of the Korea Maritime Promotion Agency, saying, "The demand for ship financing is expected to increase to about 60 trillion won by 2030 and about 100 trillion won by 2040."
In addition, measures such as support for small and medium-sized shipping companies, interest rate adjustments, and digital transformation support were discussed, and the Korea Ocean Business Corporation said it would actively consider reflecting the opinions raised at the meeting in its policies.
The meeting was attended by Park Jung-seok, chairman of the Korea Shipping Association, Kim Kyung-bae, CEO of HMM, Lee Seung-woo, chairman of KSS Shipping, Kim Sung-ik, CEO of SK Shipping, Lee Hwan-koo, president of Heung-A Shipping, Han Hee-seung, chairman of Polaris Shipping, Geum Chang-won, president of Janggeum Merchant Marine, Han Soo-han, CEO of Korea Shipping, Cho Byung-ho, CEO of Fine Ocean, and Yang Chang-ho, full-time vice chairman of the Korea Shipping Association, while Ahn Byung-gil, president of the Korea Maritime Promotion Agency, Kim Hyung-joon, head of the Maritime Strategy Division, and Yoon Sang-ho, head of the Maritime Finance Division, attended the meeting to gather the voices of the shipping industry.
